Daily Routine

Special Activities

  • Annual summer trip: In 2018 saw us visiting Irchester country park.  The children had the option to invite their parents/carers to come with them or to be accompanied by the Preschool staff.
  • Cardboard day: Where cardboard in various shapes and sizes filled the room.  The children engaged their imagination to create stories and props, we even visited the moon during the morning!
  • Bugs and Bacteria day: We explored how bacteria SPREAD and the importance of washing our hands and personal hygiene.

Key Person

Each child has their own key person to enable them to feel reassured, safe and cared for within our preschool.

This person keeps a detailed Learning Journey of the child’s progress during their time with us. These records are available to be viewed online on the tapestry learning journey platform, and discussed at any time by parents, who are always encouraged to add details of their child’s experiences from outside the preschool.

Free Flow Activities
The room is set out in different areas that all contain age and stage appropriate activities. Although the room is set out in areas, learning is not area or activity specific. For example maths language and knowledge does not just occur at a maths table. This comes in to all aspects of play, counting jumps, how many trains and carriages are on the track, how many pieces of fruit for snack, ordering sizes of things they have made in the play dough, experimenting with volume in the water, shapes in the environment etc., the list is endless. Children are free to transport resources and toys from one area to another to enhance their learning. During free flow activities children’s natural curiosities are encouraged and appropriate questions asked to check understanding. Children are given opportunities to develop skills to become independent, to persevere when challenges occur and to enable them to become lifelong learners. Using their knowledge of the individual children staff can extend activities appropriately for each child. Staff observe and record each child’s progress during free flow activities and plan next steps for each child that forms the basis of our planning. The evidence of each child’s progress is kept in their Learning Journeys which are available to the child’s parents/Carers to view at any time. We ask that when you do view your child’s learning journey you leave a comment on the Parents page to let us know what you think.

The children sit in a circle with the staff, they listen for their name before getting up to go to their grown up. This ensures the children are seen safely to their grown up. On a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we offer a lunch club. The children who stay for lunch on these days go to the bathroom and wash their hands before lunch. We sit and have lunch. After lunch we continue to offer free flow play throughout the afternoon. On a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon we offer an afternoon session.
